American Beer is Pittsburgh Brewing's budget brand and a beer that I drank a lot of in my budget conscious youth. Even though none of these concepts were chosen, it was a lot of fun to work on the rebranding of this old friend.
What if you took a contemporary advertising agency back in time? How would it promote itself in the 1850s or the 1960s? That’s exactly what this series of ads imagines.
These ads are created to appear on the back cover of Western Pennsylvania History and correspond to the era featured on the front cover.
Annual benefit update meetings can be a real bore. Highmark was seeking an engaging way to inform subscribers about Health Tools, a set of online apps that enable a subscriber to make saavy health care decisions. We developed this story about Phil and his mishap with a duck to present the the information in a fun way that would liven up an otherwise dry meeting.
Valspar Packaging was seeking to update their website in a way that better portrayed them as the innovative global leaders that they are. After a vigouous audit and reconfiguration of the content, we developed this bold new user experience.

The challenge with this piece was to deliver what is essentially a rule book to 30,000 employees and do it in an enticing and compelling way. In 2012 I worked with a team that was exploring different strategies to rebrand I.C. Light. These designs were part of a strategy that was seeking to appeal to younger people by making the brand appear more relevent and contemporary. Ultimately they went in a different direction, but I thought these were compelling enough to include here.
These materials were created to support the launch of the BRGR location in PNC Park.
Healthy Acheivements is a wellness program designed to be engaging to a workforce while at the same time reducing health care and other related costs to the employer. The challenge was to explain this elaborate program, but to do it without the use of costly live actors or custom animation. Through the creative use of green screen and on-hand "talent" we created the look of high-end animation that was both fun and highly effective.
The hardest part about this e-commerce site design was the constant chocolate craving. I probably gained a couple pounds, but I know the developers went up at least two pant sizes before the project was completed.
This project merged archival and contemporary photography to emphasize the relevance of this historic location.
A kitschy celebration of my family at Christmas time.
For this project I travelled all over Western Pennsylvania with photographer Al Adams – meeting people involved in Highmark's community outreach programs. All the images were compiled in this oversized booklet that used its large scale to convey the massive scope of Highmark's community efforts.
